Zoom 5.0 is Live

What does this mean?

On May 30th, 2020, Zoom will enable GCM encryption across the entire Zoom platform, providing increased protection for meeting data and improved resistance to tampering. After May 30th, all Zoom clients on older versions will receive a forced upgrade when trying to join meetings as GCM encryption will be fully enabled across the Zoom platform. You cannot join meetings that are using the GCM encryption after May 30 without an updated client.

Partners and customers should begin updating clients to Zoom 5.0 now to access the following product enhancements:

• "Report a User" Feature
• Leaving/Ending Meeting Enhancements
• Setting to Allow Sharing of Cloud Recordings
• Add Expiration Date for Shared Cloud Recordings
• Minimum Password Length of 6 Characters for Meeting and Shared Recording Password
• Profile Picture Control
• Show the Connected Data Center
• Select Data Center Regions when Scheduling a Meeting

This past weekend, we updated all Free and Basic accounts to require passwords on all meetings. We had planned to apply this change to admin-managed accounts as well later this month; however, after hearing helpful feedback from our customers, we are re-evaluating how and when we will apply those updated password requirements to such accounts.
